Bio
Nature and the natural world have been at the center of Loretta Kaufman’s art for four and a half decades. Birds flocking overhead or an outgoing tide can influence her work. She incorporates tears, rips and other surface treatments in her sculpture to express the energies and rhythms of the life around us. Wanting to add a another layer in her ceramic work, Loretta formulated a textured stoneware clay body that would be left natural. Her sculpture has been described as containing an interesting tension between symmetry and fluidity, with its raw unglazed surfaces and organic forms that undulate and teem with life.
While this work is not at the sculpture garden, it is for sale through Carolina Bronze Sculpture. If you are interested in purchasing one of the scuptures, contact Melissa Walker at [email protected].
